This Week’s S.F. Modernism Show Features
Collectables, Furnishings and Fun Not Found Online

Shopping online for mid-century modern furnishings can be easy, Mark Wiskow says, and can save the buyer a few bucks.

But, he says, the San Francisco Modernism Show, which runs Saturday August 13 and Sunday August 14 at the Concourse Exhibition Center (Eighth and Brannan streets, San Francisco), will allow fans to really learn about what's out there—something that’s harder to do online.

“You need to know what you’re looking for online. If you’ve never seen these candleholders,” Wiskow says, referring to a sleek, silver-plated pair from Denmark, “you don’t know to search for them.”

“You’re going to see stuff at the show you’re not going to know existed,” says Wiskow, whose firm Twentieth Century Styles will be there.

One hundred and twenty exhibitors will sell Arts & Crafts, Art Deco, and modern designs. “The emphasis is on modern,” promoter Penelope Cloutier says. A display of textiles, ‘Mission to Modern Textiles,’ will be exhibited, and there will be lectures on such topics as ‘Deco dining,’ plus a fashion show.

The show runs 10am-6pm Saturday and 11am-5pm Sunday. $10. sfmodernism.com. Look for admission discounts at goldstar.com.
