Geographically speaking, the Willow Glen neighborhood is centered around Lincoln Avenue, which was re-named from "Willow Glen Road" in 1865 shortly after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Today Willow Glen's historic downtown on Lincoln Avenue between Willow Street and Minnesota Avenue is a well-known "walkable" downtown community, with a variety of restaurants and shops. Willow Glen Community Information
Willow Glen is a quaint neighborhood in the city of San Jose. Willow Glen was an independent city until the mid 1930’s when it became part of San Jose. Willow Glen still maintains its own identity with its downtown business district on Lincoln Avenue between Minnesota Avenue and Coe Street. The downtown area is home to many sidewalk cafes, shops, and small businesses. The borders of Willow Glen are generally considered to be Highway 87 and Almaden Expressway to the east, Foxworthy Ave. to the south, Leigh Ave. to the west, and Willow Street to the north. The neighborhood has easy access to Highway 280 and 87, Almaden Expressway, and Monterey Highway. There is also access to public transportation such
as CalTrain and VTA Light Rail service. Many of the homes in Willow Glen are original and were built in the 1920’s and 30’s. These homes have either a Victorian or Spanish style. Many of the newer homes have a more contemporary appearance, though many of the architects have strived to maintain the character and style of the original homes. The homes range from 800 square foot cottages to over 4,000 square foot luxury homes. One of the most desirable aspects of Willow Glen are the great schools. The elementary, middle and high schools are part of the San Jose School District. Booksin Elementary School is one of the top elementary schools in the district. p>
